Cockroaches, mice and awful management

I’ve lived in this building quite awhile, at first it wasn’t that bad, only a couple small complaints and given the cheaper rent I didn’t mind. Over the last 2-3 years it’s gotten horrible though. I’ve had to deal with cockroaches and mice multiple times. There are so many holes in the floors/hardwood and under the sinks that units share cockroaches and mice because they just commute through the holes and gaps (I even used steel wool to try and slow down the pests). Appliances will stop working all the time (fridge, stove) and they won’t fix or replace for months on end. Imagine not having a working fridge for 3 months and your landlord laughing at you every time you bring it up. Also, during three winters I’ve had my heat not work for a full 1-2 months during the dead of winter. Had the landlord tell me that the temperature “wasn’t illegal yet” and that they would wait to fix it. Repair guy told me that almost none of the heaters in the buildings units work and that they don’t want to spend the money fixing them. Even maintenance is fed up. Oh, and they will steal your packages/mail and blame you for not picking them up from the office right away (I’m talking a day or two, not unreasonable) and act as if it’s totally normal. I could go on, because sadly there are even more problems than what I’ve listed. This place USED to be great and there are still a few staff on who are trying their best, but since COVID-19 even they have almost completely given up or have quit (the owner and management are COVID-19 deniers and will laugh at you for wearing a mask or for asking them to clean visibly dirty public spaces). I’m only still here because Ottawa has become impossible to rent in with all the price increases and I plan on moving cities. Anyone else that has a choice, please save your money and stay away from here.
