This report is not specific to a particular unit in this building
Pros:
- One of a few buildings in Centretown with 1-bedroom units under $800 a month. Most units are all-inclusive (including hydro).
- Two blocks away from both the Independent and Sobey's, four blocks from the library, with lots of restaurants and services nearby.
- Tenants are an average mix of students, professionals, and older/long-term residents. Few issues with noise.
- Most(?) units require subscription to Fibrestream internet service. While it was unreliable years ago (throttling streams/gaming, days-long periods of low speeds), for the last year, it was great. On the plus side, there were no data caps. If you like a particular provider, or have a bundle with Bell/Rogers, this could be a negative.
- Tenants can move to different units/buildings from the same landlord without having to give two months' notice.
- Smartcard laundry machines...
Cons:
- ...only one washer and one dryer for the entire building. Unless you go during weekdays daytime, you'll often be unable to get a "slot", since it's first-come-first-served whenever the washer is available.
- Units were last renovated maybe 15 years ago, so they are "modern" (tile, white paint, average fridge/oven), but were done on the cheap. Some units are very cramped, with exposed pipes, crammed-in kitchens/bathrooms, and crumbling brick walls. And don't expect renos, unless a serious problem happens.
- Building is ~100 years old, so has the various problems coming from a building that old that has been cheaply maintained.
- Landlord is very laissez-faire, with one maintenance worker who covers multiple buildings (cleaning halls maybe once a week). Lordlord communications to tenants were rare, once or twice a year, usually only when a serious problem happened.
Basically, if you're a student or worker downtown looking for a cheap place that's centrally located, this is the best you can get. But don't expect luxury, space, or quality service. But for the price/location, it's acceptable.

hi,
i am looking to rent an apartment in this building, but i am very scared that it will have bugs. Did you or did you hear from others about bug infestation, such as bed bugs or cockroaches in this building?
